My name is Anthony Miller. I am 18 years old, and I have lived in Mahwah my entire life. I graduated Mahwah High School in 2023, and I am currently a freshman at Villanova University. I am planning on majoring in something business related, whether that be finance or economics, and I am also minoring in political science. I want to either go into corporate law, corporate finance, or investment banking. Additionally, throughout my time playing varsity ice hockey at Mahwah, I was one of 8 people to get in the century club (100-point club), and I also hold the school record in assists (83).
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am the oldest of three siblings, with my other two siblings being 16 and 7. My one sister goes to Mahwah High School, and she is a junior there, and my other sister is in 3rd grade at Lenape Meadows School.
Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am currently a freshman at Villanova University. I love the campus, environment, and the community. The academics are also challenging, which is good because it will allow me to become my best self academically. I plan to do internships throughout my time in college.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
My favorite restaurants in our community are Jung Lung, Roxanne’s, and LaGondola which is owned by a father of one of my high school classmates.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have lived in our community for my whole life, so 18 years.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
I’m not sure you could say this is interesting, but my head varsity ice hockey coach at Mahwah, Coach Segall, had the most impact on me throughout my high school career. He always offered support and valued the importance of hard work and dedication, two things that really shape what I am about today.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would probably go back to Italy. I was there last summer, and I loved it a lot. Next time I would want to see a different part.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My favorite movie of all time is Miracle on Ice, the 1980 Winter Olympic movie, where team USA beat USSR, one of the biggest upsets in Olympic history if not in all of sports.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
I would tell people that it is never not worth to just try something that you may feel you’ll be interested in. You never know what could happen if you try it. Also, I would tell people that it is never worth stopping to reach your dreams just because of a mistake; the more time you contemplate about a mistake is the less time you have to go out and change the world.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Something on my bucket list to go zip lining, something I’ve never done before.
Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
I really do not have a go to band, I really listen to a variety.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Janek’s Deli; my family and I have been going there for a long time.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would probably choose Wayne Gretzky and I would take him to Jung Lung. Not only is Wayne the best player in NHL history, but he also seems to have a down to earth personality and seems like he’s so easy to talk to. I would love to hear all the great advice he’s got to offer on life in general!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing about our community is the amount of people that are there to just give back to their community through service or donations. Throughout my time with the hockey team, I really saw how people were dedicated and devoted to ensuring a better athletics program through donations and through events like car washes.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 5 to 10 years, I see myself either getting a job in a prestigious investment bank/company or going to law school.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Something interesting that most people don’t know about me is my pregame superstitions that I used to have in hockey; my stick had to be in the same exact spot before the game, and at exactly 20 minutes before I would twirl my stick 5 times in each direction to warm up my hands.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Italy, especially the Amalfi Coast. It looked like something out of a picture you would see on the internet.
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
Favorite month: December. Favorite holiday: Christmas. Best single day on the calendar: Christmas Day.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A filet mignon steak cooked medium.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My grandfather, although he passed away when I was 12, still inspires me to be better to this day. I know that he would be very proud of who I am today and what I have accomplished so far, especially by getting into Villanova. He was also a graduate of Villanova. I just know for a fact that right now he would keep pushing me to reach my dreams and to become the best version of myself that I could possibly be. I still remember our conversations when I was younger, and although I was young at the time, I can still remember some of the things he said to me about always working hard in everything that I do.

Cookies that are fresh out of the oven and probably the smell of cinnamon.
