Camdyn Roark

Q: What High School do you attend?

A: Mahwah High School.

Please tell us about your current plans after high school and what inspired you to choose this path?

I am committed to playing lacrosse at The College of William and Mary in Virginia, where I hope to either major in Pre-Med or Psychology (with a minor in Criminology and Sociology). I really want to help people hands on and would love to become a trauma nurse or go into the FBI, because I think that’s really cool. All in all, I just really want to spread some positivity in this world and combat the negativity! I also love lacrosse which is why I am so happy to be playing in college.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I have 6 people in my family: my mom, dad, older brother, and two younger sisters. I also have two dogs. We are very athletic, sarcastic, funny, and just loud; we know how to have a good time and aren’t afraid of inviting others to join!

Q: What are couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

A: I am actually obsessed with Chick-fil-A and YogyBee, even though there isn’t one in Mahwah. I also really love Nagoya, best sushi ever.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

A: Michael Schnoll hands down one of the most interesting kids I’ve ever met in Mahwah. He’s such a character, he’s one of those people that when he walks into the room, you smile because you know he’s going to say something funny!  He says things you would never think of saying, he’s always cracking jokes!  He is also very nice guy.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

A: Ireland or Greece: I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland because of my heritage and the castles, and I think Greece is beautiful and I’ve done some research on hidden trails and sight-seeing.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: Favorite movie is The Mummy, I’ve watched it like 30 times! I also love any 2000 Rom-com or high school oriented movie. I really love Buffy The Vampire Slayer and American Horror Story and Glee. I also love Musicals and try to sing, even though I can’t sing to save my life!

Q: What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?

A: “Enjoy it while you can. Take it all in. Because one day you’ll realize that your life has passed before your eyes and you haven’t even lived it!” It was Mr. Fuchs, who is basically the real-life Mr. Feeney from Boy Meets World.

Q: What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?

A: Zac Brown Band or literally any other country artist.

Q: If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?

A: Johnny Knoxville; I think he is so funny and has some of the best stunts ever. Either him or Jackie Chan too because he seems really nice. I’d take them to Houlihan’s for some fish tacos.

Q: What is your favorite thing about our community?

A: We live on hills and in trees, we have no downtown area technically, so what we do to have fun is hiking. All of my friends that aren’t from around here find that so interesting, so I think that’s really cool! I also think the fact that we have a ski mountain is really unique too.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

A: Helping others and working hard, or maybe just running the world! I have very high expectations for myself!

Q: What show are you binge-watching right now?

A: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Glee.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

A: August is my favorite month (in reality July is, because of July 4th but I’m indecisive and I’ll always say August) because my birthday is August 1st and I just think that’s a really cool birthday for some reason. My favorite holiday is either July fourth or Thanksgiving because I get to spend a lot of time with my family, and I’m on vacation on July 4th.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: My parents, family, friends, and coaches do. I see how hard they work everyday and it inspires me to be my best version of myself. I work to be a good role model and a leader for others because of them.

Q: If you could go back over your entire school career, what is one thing you would do differently?

A: I would definitely loosen up a bit more. I think I’ve focused so hard on trying to get the best grades and being the perfect student-athlete that I missed out on living sometimes. I don’t regret anything I’ve done, it’s made me who I am today, but I just think maybe giving myself a break every now and then would’ve been nice.

Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?

A: This was supposed to be my last year of lacrosse for high school, so I really miss playing on the field. I miss all of the senior rite events, like senior night for lacrosse. I miss driving around with my friends and honestly I miss my teachers and classmates. I just want my friends, family, and life back; I want my senior year back!

Q: What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?

A: I want to go run and hug my friends! It’s been a really long time since I’ve seen them and I just can’t wait to cry and hug them. I also can’t wait to hug my grandparents either. I miss them a lot!
